After the excitement of last year’s projects, which are working fantastically well I am glad to say, the Morrison Creek Streamkeepers are powering down a bit this year to catch their breath.  That said we are looking for people interested in exploring the headwaters with an eye toward likely places to put up Wood Duck boxes.

These beautiful birds have been in decline for several years because we like to remove ‘danger trees’ which tend to be the ones with big holes in them that cavity nesters, like Wood Ducks, use to raise their young.  We know there are Wood Ducks in the Comox Valley as they are active in Wildwood Marsh and have started using the boxes put out by the Oyster River Enhancement Society near their hatchery.  We also know that there are lots of ponds that could theoretically support Wood Ducks in the Morrison Creek headwaters area but don’t so we would like to fix that by providing some boxes for them to nest in.  If you are interested in assisting us with this task, please send us an e-mail at morrisoncreek@yahoo.ca.
