Golden-crowned Sparrow near Morrison Creek

These sparrows are frequent visitors to feeders although mine only seem to show up in spring.  The ‘golden-crown’ is much brighter in spring to attract the girls and then the head markings get duller later on.  They are very shy and seldom stray far from cover and often join Juncos and other birds while foraging on the ground for seeds and insects.  They also nest on or near the ground so keep your eyes low to spot this little bird.  Their call is fairly distinctive and sounds to me like stsooh, aahh, sweeeet.
